Submitting A Car Insurance Claim For The Uninitiated
November 16, 2008
First of all let me congratulate you on never having to submit and insurance claim before. You are not missing out on a whole lot. Your day will come though when out of nowhere disaster strikes and you find yourself filing your first claim. The information listed below should be able to help you through that grueling process.
To back up a step, there is one essential step you must take before you ever get to the point of submitting a car insurance claim. Itas of key importance to first get a cheap car insurance quote and to buy the insurance policy (preferably a cheap car insurance policy).
Now, policy in hand, you may venture out on the roads. Itas a good idea to keep a copy of your insurance companyas telephone number in the glove box with your proof of insurance. Always drive carefully, but proceed with special caution if that policy is too cheap!
You are driving along, happy with your new car and new, cheap insurance policy when all of the sudden you are hit by a car. First thing you want to do is get out and start shouting, because this idiot just hit your new car, but you remember what your insurance agent told you when you got the policya..call the police. The other person is screaming at you to not call the police, you calmly do it anyway. Just like your insurance agent probably told you, it is a lot easier for the claims department if you have a police report.
Now, say the accident was your fault, your kid just so happened to throw a shoe that ended up falling underneath the brakes. Hey, it happens. You probably wonat even have to worry about calling the police yourself because the other person has probably done it already. So sit back and wait for the drama to begin.
Police always arrive quickly to a scene. Better to get this over quickly. After the police officer reviews the scene you move your car to the side of the road or near by parking lot. You then wait while he asks the person you hit a series of questions, watching them in the most animated way possible tell him what happened. Next is your turn, you tell him everything and give him your drivers license and proof of insurance.
Once you are given the go head you head home, or to moms to cry on someones shoulder. You get out the card that your insurance agent gave you and call him. Be prepared to wait a while, put in your favorite movie. No I am not kidding unfortunately.
A representative from the company will eventually make their way to your call. Asking you the same questions the police did. Yes you have to tell the story all over again. You will want to give them a police report when you get it. You will want to know the details of your policy. If you donat they can help you with that. They can also help you find an adjuster or a body shop if needed. You should feel lucky; you made it out of the crash alive and also through your first claim. Congratulations.
Avoid The Pitfalls Of Auto Insurance
November 8, 2008
Getting insurance for a car is compulsory and is required by law. When a person buys a new car he is happy to be the owner of a cherished thing. He goes ahead and buys insurance for his car after checking various options, analyzing them and then reaching a decision. He is on cloud nine thinking that his car is safe and protected and in case of any harm to his car he has his insurance policy to fall back on.
It’s human nature to want to trust. We go into a business with confidence that the person inside knows what they are doing, and wouldn’t lead us astray. This often leads to anxieties and dissapointment in the end when we learn this isn’t always the case.
Very often the first place people will look when seeking car insurance is the internet. With the vast amount of providers in one place offering comparisons and low rates, it may seem to be the best place! The drawback to this is we tend to skip over the details of the policy, taking what’s offered blindly for the lowest price.
It’s more important than you realize to look deeply into the policy you purchase! That low premium your offered may come at the cost of your sanity down the road when you realize your not getting anywhere near the amount you need back after your accident. To be properly cared for, you need all the coverage you can get for the smallest amount.
Many insurance companies offer special services such as road side assistance, and free car rentals. Many people have been at the scene of their accident, traumatized, possibly even injured only to hear when they think they have someone to take care of their car, an extra fee of some kind is involved. There may also be penalties to be paid for something as simple as changing your location to another state!
Those rental car promises look good in writing, however in many cases these \”free\” cars only apply for the first few days after your accident, leaving you with a pretty steep bill if your car takes longer to repair than they think it should!
To many people, our car is like a second home. We keep many valuable things in there! You may have an expensive stereo, your laptop, maybe even jewelry! Many people have been shocked to discover in the event of auto theft, their insurance only covers the car, forcing them to take a huge loss on any valuables left inside.
Remember, you get what you pay for. When purchasing auto insurance, always ask questions! Who is covered to drive my car under this policy, what exactly is covered in case of accident? Always always remember to read the fine print! It can mean the difference between a horrible nightmare, or a minor inconvenience when involved in an accident.
Why I Bought the Sunshine Kids Radian 80 Car Seats for My Kids
November 7, 2008
It might seem really unnecessary by some people for me to spend $250 on a car seat when Walmart offers them for 1/5th that amount. However, I have good reason. If I were to get in a serious accident, I’d want to be 100% sure my kids were as safe as they could be. I wouldn’t want to have any regrets about what they were sitting in when the accident happened.
My fears are not unwarranted either. I’ve heard far too many stories about car seats or seat belts failing at the critical moment in car accidents. A personal acquaintance of mine lost both children due to seat belt failure, one of which was the seat belt of a baby car seat.
Because I never want to worry about it while I’m driving, I’ve researched all kinds of car seats and their safety. I’ve learned that keeping a child in a 5-point harness for as long as possible is the safest thing to do, and only two car seat brands allow for this feature in their car seats. Those brands are Britax and Sunshine Kids.
I decided to buy the Sunshine Radian 80 car seats. I felt they would keep my girls nice and safe up until they are 80 pounds. Most car seats have weight limits of 40 pounds and then want you to move your kids into a booster. The Sunshine Radian keeps them safest in the 5 point harness for double the normal weight limits! They also have some other great features as well.
Sunshine Radian car seats have internal steel frames. – Unlike other car seats, there’s no plastic to deteriorate in the hot sun.
Convertible – this car seat will last as long as my kids–from infant thru booster seat age. The seats work rear-facing and forward facing as well.
They look cool – these car seats have great patterns for boys and girls
LATCH – I love the fact that you can harness these seats directly to your car without depending on the car’s seat belt system. Seat belts unfortunately have been known to fail far too often.
Foldable – these car seats are heavier due to the steel frame, but they do fold up nicely and can be carried like a backpack for easy transport
Narrow – you can actually fit three car seats in a row in the back of a minivan if you need to. That works real well for me now that I have added another baby to our family. All three kids sit together in car seats from ages 0 to 8 years old!
I never regret buying my Sunshine Kids Radian 80 car seat. My kids are in one of the safest car seats on the market and comfortable to boot. The extra money was definitely worth it!
Train Horns In Pop Culture Sets New Fads
November 6, 2008
An integral part of pop or popular culture is extending one’s expression of style to his vehicle. Fads may be short lived, but what is more important is that it reveals strange and unique ways of expressing ideas. Car styling has, in agreeable yet unconventional ways, been able to create certain fads by beefing up the appearance of the vehicle. From window tinting to trim applications, vehicles have been stylized in accordance with the popular trends. Example may be cited of train horns being used in street vehicles roused some positive and also some negative impressions, but it was a bold statement nonetheless. The fads that train horns have created in pop culture appeals to the artistry, image and also annoyance of different groups of people.
The conventional uses of train horns are for signaling or cautionary applications. It is once used in trains to caution its presence and proximity to stations and into sports to cue certain actions in the game proceedings. Today, deviant behaviors brought the use of train horns into custom designed vehicles. To enjoy louder, aggressive and intimidating honking down the street, some vehicle owners have replaced original car horns with the monstrous pipes of customized train horns.
What drives people ? literally ? to customize their cars at huge cost before buying them? Pardonably perhaps, a few very rich individuals might use this technique to flaunt their wealth. From amongst this super-rich lot, a sprinkling purportedly espouses aesthetic reasons. So they lower the chassis, incorporate swing doors and slanting headlights, tint the glasses and so on to make the car sleek, smart and swish to levels the manufacturer did not reach. Fair enough. But why train horns? That’s a whim monstrously undesirable to many with normal eardrums! What sort of self-gratification is this?
Crazily enough, it’s not just in cars that train horns have found unwarranted and generally unacceptable modern-day uses. Let’s quickly run through four of these. It might be used in a classroom to harass the teacher and have a few moments’ silence follow the hideous blast. When telemarketers call, it’s blown into the telephone receiver to give the unwanted caller an ear-blast that’s meant to deter future calls. It’s honked its way on to the reggae music platform too, adding its penny worth of noise to the reggae hullabaloo. Trucks use it on highways ? that’s at least logical.
Just like other fads, the popularity of using train horns in various activities created some problems. People who install these horns in their vehicles aim to improve the performance as well as the impression of their vehicle’s presence. Since many retailers tend to exaggerate the dB levels that these horns normally produce, they are usually very laud when used in streets and highways. It even come to the point that police officers were ordered to implement an ordinance against the use of train horns on vehicles for the reason that it may create distractions to other drivers. All the concern is about driving safety and the peace and quiet of the neighborhood. However, nobody can deny a person right to self-expression. There’s no denying that train horns have become unique commodities that only few vehicle have or could afford to have. However, it would be better if train horns were used wisely and appropriately.
Do You Really Need To Change The Oil Every 3,000 Miles?
November 4, 2008
Modern vehicles are incredibly complex when compared to their predecessors. That being said, they still face the same enemies of the very first engines. Yes, I am talking about friction and the resulting heat it causes.
If you own a car, you know that the key to fighting these two devils is oil. It lubricates the parts of an engine which minimizes the friction. Without excessive friction, heat is kept to a minimum as well.
Oil will only perform for so long under the stressful conditions found in the engine of a modern car. This leads us to the question of how often you should change the oil in your car.
What answer immediately popped into your mind? I bet it was that the oil should be changed every three months or 3,000 miles, whichever came first. Right? Somewhere, an oil marketing executive has a big grin on their face.
Do you really think you need to automatically change you oil every 3 months? What if you only drove the car once during that period? The simple truth is every car faces different circumstances and thus needs oil changed at different times.
The simple truth is there is no one standard mileage or time period that should be used for oil changes. A big Ford truck simple runs differently than a Honda Civic. The oil in the truck will need to be changed well before the oil in the Honda.
Still, we need some type of guideline right? Well, you have one. For men, this will be painful. Yes, we will have to read directions. In the owners manual for the car, we can find the information for the specific needs of our vehicle.
You can expect to find a recommendation regarding the miles and time period for the oil change in the manual. There should also be a recommendation on the weight of oil and specific oil brand that should be used.
The weight of oil to be used is absolutely vital. Do not just throw anything in your engine. You can kill the engine and violate any warranty. Do not worry too much about the brand, however. You can use whatever you like in most cases.
If you can, try to go with synthetic oil for your car. They last much longer. A Mini Cooper, for instance, will go up to 17,000 miles between oil changes running on Castrol Synthetic. Not bad, eh?
I personally use Mobil 1 oil for my vehicles. I have minimal engine problems. We recently broke down the motor of a friend who used Mobil 1 for 125,000 miles in a BMW and found the engine to be in great shape.
Ultimately, you should follow the directions of your manufacturer on oil changes. They typically will be for 5,000 miles or more, which can save you a lot of money.

Hydrogen Gas Saver – Installing A Hydrogen Conversion Kit
November 1, 2008
If rising gas prices have you worried and you have the interest and skills to do basic mechanical jobs on your vehicle, you may want to consider installing a hydrogen gas saver in your car. Among the benefits that you can see by installing this system are increase in gas mileage, considerable reduction in emissions and reduction in operating costs. Further, hydrogen gas is environment friendly, making it even more worthwhile.
In order to install a hydrogen gas saver system, you have a variety of options. One of the options is to build your own system from the components purchased locally at local automotive supply stores, home improvement type stores or specialty distributors. The cost of equipment for the do-it-yourself (DIY) kits varies from around $200 to several thousand dollars. There are a number of online sources for detailed instructions of doing this kind of installation, the most notable of which are referred to as water for gas kits.
Hydrogen gas saver conversion kits basically work as miniature hydrogen plants in your vehicle. Using as little as a quart of water these systems are able to extract hydrogen gas from the water using a small amount of electric current from the vehicle’s charging system. The hydrogen gas extracted from the water is then introduced into the air fuel mixture already entering your vehicle through the induction system. These types of systems are adaptable to almost every vehicle that rolls or floats. From all terrain vehicles a.k.a. ATV’s to yachts there is a hydrogen gas saver kit out there for you.
If you are considering adding hydrogen power to your vehicle to boost its performance without going the home-made way, the best way to do it is to have either the manufacturer or someone trained and recommended by the manufacturer install the hydrogen gas saver system in your car. These systems tend to be on the high end of the scale but may be more suitable for long-term use.
You will probably have difficulty locating installation centers in areas where there is no hydrogen plant or hydrogen fueling stations nearby. The technology is new enough that most places do not commonly have conversion services for installation of hydrogen gas saver. In the absence of an installation center you could approach the closest center to you or consult others for information about retrofitting your vehicle. Some of the online guides for these systems also list people that are experienced in making and installing the system based on location.
Most companies offering kits to convert your car to a hydrogen hybrid claim that these installations do not affect your vehicles manufacturers warranty, you should check with your selling dealer or even the home office of the vehicle manufacturer. And by all means make sure you write down the name of the person you spoke with good or bad.
No matter what type of installation you choose, converting your vehicle’s fuel to a hydrogen gas saver model can be the right choice for your wallet and the environment. Certain kits might even qualify for a tax credit from the IRS when tax time rolls around putting even more money in your pocket.
